hasperkynipples: ([dean] gun)
Dean was starting to get a bad feeling about this case.

They'd been trailing Ruby for a while now after the whole church incident, trying to keep an idea on her and what she was up to, but she was all over the map as far as victims were concerned. Dean would acknowledge that she was too good at what she did to not have some other kind of ulterior motive. There was a pattern there, but Dean just hadn't found it yet. He also knew that going in blind wasn't the smartest plan in the world, but there was a kid involved. Little eight year-old girl who Ruby had grabbed and hauled out of town like she was some kind of sacrifice to whatever Hell god she worshiped, and while Dean my not have known anything about what exactly it was Ruby was up to, but he wasn't going to take a risk on the kid's life.

He pulled the Impala up to the side of the cabin where they though the kid was being held. He could see the lights on through the window, and the small silhouette of a girl who was most likely scared out of her mind. If they could get in there and get out without alerting the demon bitch, then they would be golden. "Alright. In and out, right guys?"

Sam didn't like this. Something was just wrong. Wrong beyond the fact that Ruby had kidnapped a child because Ruby didn't kidnap people. She killed them. At least that was what Sam knew of Ruby beyond the very bad but feel good sex she shared with him that he wasn't allowed to do again. But why would she kidnap this child without doing anything else and bringing her back to the toy cabin in the woods?

"I still don't like this," he said softly. "There is something more. More than we can see and I don't like that. We should go."

"More? What more?" Alec asked. Sam knew his stuff no matter how childish in manner it may come out. He was feeling a bit edgy too. Maybe he was picking up on Sam's nerves or maybe it was the animal instinct. He wasn't sure yet.

[Still set in [livejournal.com profile] wayward_au. Follows THIS.]

Dean didn't need to take Alec back to the house, not that they weren't going in the same direction anyway, but he wasn't really thinking of that at the time. Instead he just made a beeline for Sam, knowing that he was going to have to tell his brother now that he was completely sure, and that this wasn't a conversation to be having over the phone. He had to tell him face to face, because owed Sam that much, and he needed to see Sam's reaction, rather than just hear it.

As he drove over to the motel, his mind just kept replaying the whole conversation, everything that had been said and not said, that Dean just knew on instinct. It hadn't gone any differently than he had expected it to. There were questions that weren't asked that he had been expecting, accusations that weren't made that Dean had almost wanted John to. Questions that Dean knew would flip a switch somewhere inside of him, and everything would come pouring out -- all the resentment and anger and aching and love that tended to roll through him when Dean was dealing with his father, and sixteen years down the road, it still wasn't any different.

Part of him knew that things weren't going to end well, given the givens, and he was bracing himself for impact, but the other part of him was almost relieved. John had always been Dean's point of direction -- his reference for everything and the reason he gave such unwavering loyalty, because all Dean had ever wanted was for them to just be a family, whether that meant hunting or otherwise. Right now, part of him was cursing the fact that he was happy when he knew that his father was an obsessed bastard and all the loyalty in the world wasn't necessarily going to get him what he wanted, but at the end of the day, he was happy. And that wasn't a bad thing.

He arrived at the motel, got out of the car, and headed right to his brother's door without even skipping a beat. A few seconds later, he was pounding on the door to the motel room, not really wanting to know what Sam and Ruby were doing behind it, but not really having any qualms with interrupting either.

"Open up, Sammy, it's important."

[Cowritten with [livejournal.com profile] failuretotrust and [livejournal.com profile] ilove_atallman. Angst ahoy.]

She'd gotten the call that Ruby was spotted at a motel just outside the city. She didn't want to go near the woman. In fact, she wanted the woman out of her and Sam's lives. She wanted Sam to stop this need to hunt her down and kill her. She hated that it was consuming him and pushing a wedge between them. Whatever they had still. Things had been changing, and she wasn't sure what any of it meant. They'd never been the perfectly in love couple, they'd just been. Been there for each other, loved each other, taking care of each other. She wasn't too sure what was going on, but she also wasn't sure what she'd do if she lost it.

So that's why she was going after Ruby. If she could find the demon, get the gun back that Sam needed so desperately, then maybe he would stop. Maybe they could just go back to normal. It's what 99 needed. She needed normal and safe.

Once she found the motel, she made sure her gun was at her hip, before going for the door that Ruby supposedly was staying behind. She pulled her weapon out and held it to her leg, then knocked.

Ruby pushed her up from the table where she was working, and made her way over to the door, looking through the peephole to see who it was. When she recognized the face, she froze, before turning back and heading towards the bed where Dean was starting to lower himself down onto the bed. "Don't -- we gotta go, we gotta go now."

"What?" Dean frowned, looking back over at her, before his eyes darted to the door. "Who is it?"

"Your ex. Let's go."

"Shit," Dean muttered before pushing himself up, grabbing his jacket and starting to scramble for an exit. "How the hell am I going to -- ?"

"Bathroom window. I'll hold her off. Go."

Dean nodded, before starting to head towards the bathroom, looking for the window Ruby had mentioned.

He was bleeding. Bleeding wasn't a good sign.

His weight slumped into Ruby as he let her haul him up the stairs to the front of Bobby's old house, glancing back over her shoulder. The demons were coming and they were coming fast. She knew that going to Bobby was the right choice, strategically speaking, and that it was safe, but she wasn't ignoring the fact that this was going to blow their cover in a big way. Dean wouldn't be able to guarantee that Bobby would keep his mouth shut to Sam, but he was right in saying that they didn't have any other choice. She hauled them up the stairs letting Dean still lean heavily on her as she knocked loudly on the door.

"C'mon, Bobby," he sighed. "Open up."

Bobby had been going through his books, looking for a certain one Sam wanted him to ship out for his and Beth's latest job. When he heard the knock, then the voice, his eyes narrowed. He grabbed his knife and went to the door, opening it just inches, and glaring out. "..What the fuck.."

"Look, Bobby," Dean winced slightly, as Ruby shifted against where he was injured to try and brace his weight better. "I know I have a lot of explaining to do, but I don't have anywhere else to go. I swear I'm not a demon or a shapeshifter, just please." Bobby could probably see the swatch of red where Dean was bleeding from, and as it spread onto Ruby, who was holding a hand to the wound as she tried to keep Dean on his feet.

He stared at them longer, more glares going Ruby's way. He gripped his knife tightly. "I'm supposed t'believe ya?"

[Follows THIS. Same notes there apply. I said it was long.]

"Oooh the garden state." Okay so sometimes Alec was a little odd. He pulled open the back passenger door and let Jinx slip past him.

Dean and Sam exchanged a look, before sliding back into the car. "New Jersey ain't so bad. Depending on the day."

"No in all seriousness I have no problems with the state. " He closed the car door. "Okay so most of my experience with it was from the fourth floor of a hospital, but eh, the view was pretty good."

"The Pine Barrens suck," Dean said with a sigh. "It's just miles of friggin' nothing. Which makes me really hope that Bela knows where she's going."

"If she doesn't, I do. I've been here a couple of times to pick stuff up. It's just that we don't want to approach him without a familiar face. His toys pack a wallop and he's not above just plain old shooting I don't think." He shrugged. "Magical arms dealer." Not that that's what Alec had been getting, but still.

Dean raised an eyebrow slightly, before glancing at him in the mirror. "I didn't know those existed. But then again, I probably shouldn't be all that surprised."

"As far as I know he corners the market. Though it may just be that he's the only person Bela deals with that she trusts at all." He paused. "I think he knows Ruby, too. But maybe he just knows of her."

"Didn't know Ruby was that popular," Sam said slowly, before glancing back at him. "I take it you know Ruby too?"

Alec nodded. "She's family. She's like. . .I dunno. You two are really close."

Sam paused for a moment. "We are?"

And this is also being crossposted all over creation. My apologies now.]

Alec stepped out of the ware house and stretched. He had a bag slung on his back and the shot gun loose in one hand. Ghosts were easy prey for him and Jinx. Between the two animal sensitive noses and Alec's gift it was never hard to find the bones. And he was starting to think that one out of every four dockside warehouse had a pissed spirit in it. The Impala was right where he'd left her, safe and sound. Jinx sat near a rear tire while Alec opened the trunk to stow his gear. That was when things got a little odd. He was holding the shot gun but he was also looking at it. In the trunk. And sure Dad had more than one. . but not *this* one.

Dean had only gone to get coffee. Really. He was gone all of what, five minutes, and he had some mook going through the trunk of his car. Dean rolled his eyes slightly, figuring it was one of Bela's goons screwing with his car (again), and he rolled his eyes before pulling the gun out of his pocket, and coming up as stealthily as possible, aiming the muzzle right between his shoulder blades. "You're gonna wanna back away from my car -- right now."

"Oh for fuck's sake I knows she's made of win. But seriously?" Alec didn't even feel afraid. Cautious yes but afraid? No? Not with Jinx right there. Jinx who was undoubtedly getting ready to take the guy's hand off right about. . .

Jinx had a moment of startled confusion but a gun on his master was kinda not something he tolerated. But given who it was maybe he wouldn't actually kill.

. . .Now Alec heard that angry chainsaw through steel snarl and Jinx rose to his feet.
