[MM] Unknown quote

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
“Can I ask you something? And I want an honest answer, not just some the sugar coated version.”
Dean shifted on his bed so that he was looking at his brother more, propping himself up on his elbows. Sam was downstairs with Bobby, and Alec and Dean were alone with each other. It was one of the first times that had happened since Sam had come back, and while he wanted to spend some quality time with his brother, he wasn’t sure he wanted it to be a serious question. “Sure, dude. What’s up?”
“Do you know why Sam thought you were going to send him back to Hell?”
That actually really wasn’t the question that Dean wanted to answer. At all. In fact, he just wanted to move on from the whole Sam situation and focus on tracking down Ruby and ganking the bitch, but he did say he would give him a direct answer, and he honored his promises to his family. At least most of them.
“It’s something he probably doesn’t even remember,” Dean said with a bit of a snort. “I mean, he remembers the feelings but he doesn’t remember the words, or hell, even why for that matter.” He was wondering if he could get off with just that, but the look Alec was giving him meant he wanted to know the why of the why. He took a deep breath, before closing his eyes. “I promised my dad that if Sam ever went evil, I’d kill him. And then I promised Sam the same thing.”
“Seriously?” He forced himself to meet Alec’s eyes, and Alec sat back a bit, considering that for a moment. “Why—our dad first, then Sam.”

“Can’t understand a word that comes out of her mouth anymore.”
Dean muttered as he collapsed into the couch, running a hand over his eyes. Alec was sitting at the piano, smirking at his father. Sammy had just disappeared up the stairs, and her father’s eyes were following her footfalls as she disappeared, but Dean didn’t have to be paying attention to Alec to know that that was what he was doing. He’d been getting those looks since Sammy started school because every day she came home there was a new word that was being used some other way.
“We need to get you a cheat sheet,” he teased, leaning back in the seat as he shifted so that he wasn’t playing as loudly, but still playing. “Or maybe an email subscription to the urban dictionary.”
“Whatever happened to just using simple English?”
“Oh, c’mon Dad, you were just as bad. Remember when you first brought me home?”
“Hey, I always made perfect sense.”
“You had a mix of B-movie references, military jargon, and whatever slang you picked up in the biker bars. And you wonder why I spent most of the time looking at you like you were nuts.”

wayward_au. Alec is
smart_alec494 who made a request for Dean and Alec future fic with the prompt “silly.” Olivia is an NPC.]
“I've learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances.”
“Dude, you suck with kids.”
Olivia was in tears again, and somehow it was his fault. Michael wasn’t sure how, as he had done everything as he was told. He was holding her just the way he was supposed to and—nothing. Not even an acknowledgement from the little girl, who seemed content to only wail until Alec came in and took her off Michael’s hands. Olivia clung to him like her life depended on it, sliding her arms around her cousin’s neck as she slowly calmed herself against his shoulder.
“I wasn’t created to deal with children.” It could almost be said that the angel was sulking, if angels did such a thing. “I was meant to be a warrior, the wrath of the Almighty. I’m not a babysitter.” Alec was quiet for a moment. He recognized the look in his son’s eyes, the one that came with doubt as to Michael’s feelings towards his son. His face softened a bit. “And taking care of you is not babysitting, Alec.”
“I know.” He said the words, but Michael could feel the uncertainty rolling off his in waves. It unsettled the Dean end of the spectrum more than Michael—Dean didn’t like that Alec doubted Dean’s reasons for being there, though he knew that as of late, he hadn’t done much to prove to him that he wasn’t going anywhere. He was trying to fix it, but there was only so much he could do with who he was now. The pieces of Dean and Michael were still separate entities, as much as he tried to bring them together, and it wasn’t getting easier as he had hoped.
