In which Dean makes a hospital visit
[Cowritten with

With Max's help, Dean managed to get up to the floor where they were holding Beth relatively easily. Max got him through most of the checkpoints, and when they got to Beth's room -- 'Helen' as she was being referred to by the hospital staff -- Beth was asleep in the bed. He quietly closed the door behind him, starting to make his way towards her slowly, sitting down on the edge of the bed and watching her for a moment.
He was worried about her. He knew that they both had crazy jobs and one of them was bound to get hurt eventually, but that didn't mean he had to like it any. Taking a deep breath, he reached over and took her hand in his, rubbing it gently as he waited for her to wake up.
When she did come to, the best she could, she groaned. "Bruuuce," she whined. She pulled her hand away from Dean. "Go away."
He chuckled, before moving a hand up to brush his hair out of her face lightly. "Try again, sweetheart."
Her breath caught at that. Not that breathing was easy as it was at the moment, but...she knew that voice. She opened her eyes and stared at him. She let her fingers cling onto his, needing that touch more than she had realized. "What are you doing here?"
He gave her a grin, squeezing her hand. "You know, if you wanna get my attention, there are easier ways to do it than getting shot." She wanted to hit him, but she didn't have the energy so she just glared and stuck her tongue out. "Your friend Max gave me a call," he said softly, looking down at her. "Let me know what was going on, so I decided that you could use a visit."
"Mmm. You didn't have to, I mean...I might get outta here in another month or so." She smirked slightly.
"Wait a whole month? Psh. Why do that when I can come by the hospital and check out all the hot nurses?"
Whatever strength she had at that moment she used to squeeze his fingers. "Then go be a pain in their asses."
"Kidding," he said with a smirk, before he swallowed a little, and his face got a bit more serious. "Look, I get if you can't tell me a lot about what you have going on, but -- what happened?"
She sighed and closed her eyes. "Don't remember much, but...I was working a job. There was a lack of communication and my cover got blown. I guess..I was in another hospital for a week or so, and have been here about a week. Wanna see my scar?"
"You know, I've never really a been scar guy," he said with a shrug. "I'm just glad you're okay."
She looked over at him. "Me too. And I'm glad you're pretty." Okay. So she was a little high still.
Dean laughed. "What can I say? I provide a good view."
"You know..I was thinking...life...is short. I could have died."
"But you didn't," Dean said with a slight swallow. "And I'd rather not think about that."
"I know," she murmured. "But. You are pretty. And Amy is pretty. And I think...you should both be pretty with me. That's what I think." She probably wasn't going to remember mentioning this, and she would probably slap herself later if she did.
"You know what, I like this idea," Dean said with a small smile. "I think we should further discuss this plan when you're actually feeling up to following through, okay?"
"Mmkay," she sighed. She turned her head to the side and watched him. "Thank you for coming."
"It's what I'm here for," he said, cupping the side of her face lightly. She bit her lip, not wanting to get emotional. But she did feel a bit of water in her eyes. She had been scared. She really had been. And now looking at him made her body think it could finally relax and let it out. She continued trying to hold onto herself. He watched her for a minute, before leaning over to kiss the top of her head. "I should let you get some rest."
Her eyes closed while he was close. "Stay," she whispered. "Don't leave me."
Dean pulled back just enough to glance over his shoulder, before looking back at her. "See, the thing is -- I'm not really supposed to be here. Max said he's going to give some kind of signal when I'm supposed to hide in a closet or something. I just -- don't want to get him into trouble." He turned back to face her again. "If I could stay, I would though. I'll try and be back later."
She bit her lip and nodded, looking down. He leaned in to kiss her softly, brushing his thumb against her cheek bones lightly. She kissed him back. "You can hide in my bed," she offered softly.
"I could. But I think I would still get caught."
"You suck," she murmured. "Fine. Go. Leave your woman broken and bruised in a hospital bed," she played the dramatics lightly.
"Aww, c'mon," he said teasingly, kissing her neck softly as he pulled away. "Tell you what, when you get out of here? I'll be right outside with my baby, and we'll go for a ride. How does that sound?"
"Wonderful," she nodded.
"Good," he smiled, before kissing her again, before pulling away. "I'll try to get back in later, alright?"
"Okay. Tell Sam hi."
"I will," he nodded.
She closed her eyes and lay back, preferring to not watch him leave. He ran a hand over the top of her head one last time, before getting up and making his way out the door. He didn't want to leave, but now that he saw she was mostly okay, it made things a little easier. Not much, mind you -- but at least a little.
