"I have been sheltered from it all before now," she says, sounding sad. It's like she's had her eyes opened for the first time since the war started. Everything was so positive at first, with men signing up to defend their new country and she felt so proud of them. Now she thinks of these men who did this and she feels nothing but shame.

"Now I know that man is capable of anything."
