Dean leans on Beth. A lot. A lot more than he probably should. No matter how much he tries to push her away, she never listens, which is great for him, potentially bad for her. Regardless, though, she’s there for him in a way that most people aren’t, and that’s one of the things he loves about her. And he misses her. A lot.

This song reminds me of their first meeting. Even if their first meeting didn’t go quite as well as this song did, it was still this idea of two people who had a rough time in professions where they couldn’t trust a lot of people finding each other in the middle of nowhere. And then Dean had to ruin it all and die.

This was going to originally be the title track of the mix, but I changed it up to something a little more appropriate. Beth was the alias that she first gave Dean, back when they first met, and he’s probably the only person who still calls her it. And this song just felt so much like Dean giving her another lame excuse when coming home for a hunting trip, and it made me smile.

Beth keeps him grounded. So so incredibly grounded. She’s the one who tells him that he can do things, even when he feels like he can’t and has dropped himself into the endless pit of despair that is Dean Winchester angst. She can actually pull him out of it. Not many people can.

Dean almost resents that I made him put this song on the mix, because it makes him feel old. However, this song is about how no matter how many times they fight, bicker, argue, or do each other bodily harm, he’ll always take her back. And it for more reasons than the fact that she’s just ridiculously hot.
